It Must Be Christmas: GRAMMY® Award-winning Tenor DAVID PHELPS Records  All-new Christmas CD and DVD

Celebrated, Three-octave Vocalist Brings a Nostalgic, Crooner Flair to Seasonal Songs Old and New

It Must Be Christmas TV Special to Air on Multiple Networks

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–October 19, 2018–GRAMMY® Award-winning, classically-trained tenor David Phelps celebrated Christmas early this year before a LIVE audience on his family farm as he recorded an all-new DVD entitled It Must Be Christmas (Gaither Music Group).  Releasing today, along with the companion studio CD recording, the It Must Be Christmas performance video finds David adding all-new arrangements of classic seasonal favorites as well as original creations to his 20-year repertoire of Christmas songs.

It Must Be Christmas: GRAMMY® Award-winningTenor DAVID PHELPS Records All-new Christmas CD and DVD

“What a privilege it was to gather my friends and family in this unusual, intimate setting to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year!” Phelps described.  “Our goal was — in every sense — to record the entire project as a throw-back to the days of excellent live music–before the editing, punches and retakes of many of today’s recordings.  I gathered some of the best musicians in the world, rehearsed a couple of times and then hit the floor.”

Hitting the floor and making great art is nothing new to Phelps, who is an accomplished arranger, songwriter, composer and one of the most recognized artists on the Gaither HOMECOMING Series.  Recorded in The Barn @ The Phelps Farm, just south of Nashville, Tennessee, and produced by Phelps, the concert DVD captures the powerhouse vocals one might expect from this three-octave, “who’s who of vocalists.” He brought in a jazz-heavy band for the show including Pat Coil, Danny O’Lannerghty, Greg Ritchie, Alida Osterlin, Kari Lee, Dan Wheeler and Jack Daniels.

“Surrounded by talent at the top of their game, it made me long for a time when every tree had multi-colored lights, doorways were always dressed with mistletoe, stores were closed on Christmas Eve and families gathered in living rooms around crackling radios tuned in to Frank Sinatra singing ‘The First Noel.’”

Background vocals were performed by Daniels; David’s daughters, Callie and Maggie Beth; Martin Young and acclaimed recording artist Charlotte Ritchie.  Charlotte, who tours regularly with David, joined him for a special duet of an original “Fall on Your Knees,” an epic ballad based on the lyrics of “O Holy Night.”

“I’ve been looking for something to sing with Charlotte.  She and I have never sung a duet before.  I didn’t write this song as a duet, so I went back and kind of re-worked it.  The challenge with a song like this is ‘How do you take a lyric that is so beloved—not only by the world but by me—and kind of do something different with it?’  My goal was for it to be a Christmas worship song; and when the choir comes in followed by the congregation singing, ’‘Fall on your knees!’ it really took on a life of its own.”

Phelps joins the band with a drum feature on the classic “The Little Drummer Boy,” a favorite on his Christmas tour, which has been an annual event for 20 years.  He presents a crooner-inspired flair with seasonal gems “Tennessee Christmas,” “Sleigh Ride,” “Go Tell It on the Mountain” and the newly-penned title cut, “It Must Be Christmas.”

“I wanted this recording to be something more than nostalgic,” he described.  “I realized for myself as I wrote for this project that this topic can never be finished being written about.  This is the greatest story ever told.  It’s not like ‘ok, it’s told…this is done,’ and so all the songs have been written about it.  That’s not gonna happen for me and for the world.  We’re still gonna be writing songs about this and watching plays about it and reading stories based on it…it is the moment that changed human history, and it will never lose its depth of content.”

Weekend Word From SGN Scoops

Written by scoopsnews on October 20, 2018 – 6:29 am -

Weekend Word

I [have] raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee . . .

—Romans 9:17

Why is The Holy Spirit important?

The Holy Spirit is God Himself, as He works in the world and in our hearts today to accomplish His purposes. (This, incidentally, is why we should refer to the Holy Spirit in personal terms—not as “it” but as “Him”).

In other words, just as Jesus was fully God, as well as fully man when He lived on earth, so the Holy Spirit is fully God as He works today. Jesus promised His disciples that after He returned to heaven, the Holy Spirit would come to take His place. He said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth” (John 14:16-17).

Because He is God, the Holy Spirit is eternal and all-powerful, and He is everywhere. But when we come to Christ and commit our lives to Him, the Spirit also comes to live within us. In fact, before we ever come to Jesus, He is already at work in our hearts, convicting us of our sins and convincing us of the truth of the Gospel.

Thank God that He has not abandoned you, but that He is present within you by His Spirit. Ask Him to guide you when you pray, and also to give you wisdom when you have decisions to make. Ask Him also to help you read the Bible and apply it to your life, and to change you into the person God wants you to be. Most of all, ask Him to help you point others to Jesus.

(Answer by Billy Graham, Billygraham.org)

Gospel Music Hall of Famers the Gaither Vocal Band and Rising Country Music Singer Bradley Walker Enjoy a Rewarding Evening at This Year’s DOVE Awards

NASHVILLE, Tenn.—October 18th, 2018—GRAMMY®-winning recording artists and Gospel Music Hall of Fame members the Gaither Vocal Band were awarded Southern Gospel Artist of the Year honors last night at this year’s GMA DOVE Award ceremonies, held at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.

“The great thing that we get to do is travel as a band of brothers,” stated group member Reggie Smith during his acceptance speech, “these guys are like family, and we get to travel with the oldest ‘teenager’ on the planet–Bill Gaither! We are grateful for this award and for what we get to do.”

The quintet, which headlines one of Christian music’s biggest tours annually, also received nods for Southern Gospel Recorded Song of the Year for “Hallelujah Band”; Southern Gospel Album of the Year for We Have This Moment (Gaither Music Group); Bluegrass/Country/Roots Song of the Year for “Chain Breaker”; Long Form Video of the Year for Country Roots and Gospel Favorites, featuring Gaither Vocal Band, The Gatlin Brothers and The Oak Ridge Boys; and Christmas/Special Event Album of the Year for Country Roots and Gospel Favorites (Live).

Label-mate and rising country gospel singer Bradley Walker took home his first GMA DOVE Award for best Bluegrass/Country/Roots Album of the Year (Gaither Music Group) for Blessed, Hymns and Songs of Faith, produced by Ben Isaacs (The Oak Ridge Boys, Jimmy Fortune).

“Growing up singing these songs in church, you don’t think you are going to receive an award one day,” said a surprised and elated Walker. “It’s just hard to believe. I want to thank Bill Gaither for giving me the opportunity to record this album, and I want to dedicate this award to Joey Feek. Without her love and support and were it not for my getting to sing at her home-going, this would never have happened. I am, as the album title says, ‘blessed.’”

A well-loved performer for years among classic country and bluegrass music circles, Walker was also nominated for Southern Gospel Artist of the Year and for Bluegrass/Country/Roots Song of the Year for “I Will Someday” (featuring The Isaacs), written by Chris Stapleton, Garnet Bowman, Morgane Hayes and Ronnie Bowman.

We are proud to represent these artists and pleased to see these performers achieve these recognitions at this year’s awards.”

The Gaither Music Group artists are seen regularly on over 15 TV networks that carry the “Gaither Gospel Hour” weekly including PBS, TBN, RFD-TV, CTN, DIRECTV, The Heartland Network, Dish TV, FamilyNet, GMTN, Guardian, Liberty, TCT, TLN and GaitherTV. The programming is seen in Canada on Vision TV, The Miracle Channel, Grace TV and CTS.

The Guardians are Ready for Revival

Written by SGN Scoops Staff on October 19, 2018 – 9:08 am -

The Guardians are Ready for Revival

The Guardians are Ready for Revival

Nashville, TN StowTown Records artist The Guardians has released a brand new project today, their first as a quartet. Ready for Revival, a 12-song collection from this famed group is available at digital and retail outlets worldwide and is distributed exclusively by Sony/Provident.

“We feel a sense of urgency now more than ever to sound a call for revival in the church, this nation and the world,” states John Darin Rowsey. “From the first note of the project to the last, we wanted to create a spiritual and emotional journey that would touch the heart and soul of everyone who heard it. As the debut quartet project, we certainly wanted to make use of the talents of Pat Barker. The arrangements of Wayne Haun and the brilliant writing from some of the industry’s top writers have definitely accomplished that. There is an excitement in the songs on this project that has created a new zeal in all of us. We can’t wait to share the message in the songs!”

Several of the songs recorded were written specifically with their revival tour in mind as they travel with Revive America, led by Rev. Terry Toler. In true Guardians form, they treat this project like a member of the family, carefully paying attention to every detail.

Dean Hickman and The Guardians truly believe in the integrity of presentation,” said Wayne Haun, StowTown co-founder and producer. “They are genuine in their love for the Gospel message and their love for gospel music. How many tenor singers are still performing and traveling at age 70?! Dean is amazing, both on stage and off. There is no greater cheerleader for young people in our industry, and I am honored to have worked with him and The Guardians on Ready for Revival.”

Pray for Susan Gibbs of the Gibbs Family

Susan Gibbs suffers mini stroke

Susan Gibbs suffers mini stroke

The Gibbs Family have requested prayers for Vernon’s wife Susan Gibbs. According to Vernon’s latest post on Facebook, Susan has been admitted to the hospital for a mini-stroke. A CT Scan showed she has had several in the past. Doctors are looking at a known tumor in the brain to see if that is the source of the strokes.

Vernon and Susan live in Scottsmoor, Florida, where they have been helping those who were hit with Hurricane Michael. They have a daughter, Natasha, and two sons, Bo and Tim, as well as several grandchildren. Susan was just involved in a hit-and-run on September 25 which caused her a lot of back pain, plus she has been dealing with other medical issues for several years.

The Gibbs Family (see their website here) have been singing throughout the United States for the past 20 years. Their website states: “With a combination of southern gospel, praise and worship, contemporary, and country gospel, we have something for everyone. We enjoy every moment out on the road and praise God for giving us the talent to minister to others.”

The Gibbs Family were scheduled to appear at Creekside Gospel Music Convention 2018. SGNScoops requests your prayers for Susan and Vernon and their family at this time. #wearefamily
